Valerie Black has been designing and making jewellery since 1980; her work has sold in more than 50 shops worldwide and inspired a new, innovative approach to gemstone jewellery design. 

Valerie has made individual pieces for her clients for a number of years. She has built up a wide portfolio of attractive designs which are available through this website. Current combinations of design, precious metal and stone are available directly. Some designs can be tailored to use different stones or metals by special arrangement.

Each piece is made by hand using 18ct gold, silver and the finest quality precious and semi-precious stones cut in Idar Oberstein, Germany.

Valerie spent her formative years living in South America, including some years in Brazil where she experienced the huge range of exciting gemstones available there.  Since starting to make her own jewellery she has built close links with the expert stone cutters of Idar Oberstein, Germany. They have been cutting stones in this region for hundreds of years, starting with their indigenous agate mines. When these began to deplete, they turned their talent to sourcing and cutting stones from across the world. Today, Idar Oberstein offers among the widest choice of precious and semi-precious stones anywhere in the world.  Valerie regularly visits to select the best and most interesting options for her clients.
